Introducing the Abington and Rosemont. A sleek pair of town models, both bikes have been designed and precision engineered here at ARCC Innovations in Cambridge. They are partly the product of the great success of ARCC Bike’s electric bike conversion system: the Intelligent Drive Pod. After the Intelligent Drive System debuted in 2015, ARCC looked to expand into the world of bike design as, while the Intelligent Drive Pod was already paired with sophisticated bikes like the Moulton TSR and Brompton, it was thought that ARCC’s system should also be complemented with bikes of its own stable. Enlisting the collaboration of award-winning frame builder, Toby Gallagher, ARCC looked to make bikes that harked back to a classic style but had a modern twist; combining the elegance and poise of a bygone era with state-of-the-art engineering. After a rigorous period of development in 2018, both bikes successfully launched the following year.

Early into the bikes’ development, it was decided that both bikes would be made of custom-drawn Reynolds Technology steel tubing. Selected for its high-tensile strength and low-weight, ARCC Bikes have utilised a double top tube design to create a super lightweight frame. With flowing lines and a smooth finish, each bike is hand brazed by technicians. The Abington also comes in several sizes, small to medium at 18”, medium to large at 20” and extra-large at 21.5”.

Built with low maintenance and modularity in mind, both bikes have machined stainless steel dropouts which allow for a variety of drivetrains, including Shimano Single Speed, Shimano Alfine 8 and 11 Speed and Rohloff 14 Speed hub gears, as well as the revolutionary Gates Carbon Belt Drive, which requires little cleaning or care. With a wide variety of other options and configurations, like saddles, pedals and luggage racks, the Abington and Rosemont can be customised to suit the rider’s needs.

Offering a sporty but comfortable ride, the Abington is a bit less sedate than the Rosemont, but both bikes are ideal for commuting, fast on-road cycling, or long-distance touring, delivering a well-tuned, responsive cycling experience everywhere you go. Fitted with Shimano BR-RS305 flat mounted disc brakes, both bikes offer a superior smooth braking motion, and paired with large, puncture-resistant Schwalbe Marathon Plus 650b x 38 tyres, give the rider confidence on even the most weather-beaten roads.

Individually built, tested and tuned by ARCC engineers, the Abington and Rosemont are supported with a five-year warranty, and are made with the care and attention each bike deserves. The robust and low-maintenance bikes are designed to not require significant aftercare; a testament also to ARCC Bikes making bikes as reliable as it makes the Intelligent Drive Pod.

It is pleasure to have the ARCC bikes made here in Cambridge, the home of British cycling. With lots of flat space, they are tested in a range of environments; in the busy student town and out in the countryside. Offering test rides, you can discover the two bikes’ smooth ride for yourself and meet the team behind the unique Intelligent Drive System at our South Cambridgeshire site.
